There will be 179 filming days instead of the usual 184 because of the animated episode.

Which is probably the real reason they did the animated episode in the first place.

Also, it means we won't get a clip for the new season from Comic-Con, unless they have something ready from the animated episode.

I usually check out the film production list at Directors Guild of Canada for updates. The dates currently listed could be wrong and may just need to be updated. But last weeks list from June 16th Supernatural wasn't mentioned at all for filming dates yet.

Thanks for the source info. They generally start filming about two weeks after they begin pre-production and that officially starts tomorrow (the production office opened back up last week). That's according to the line producers on Twitter like Jason Fischer: Also, if they were to begin shooting so late, it seems a bit odd that Jensen wouldn't have time to direct an episode. He's certainly going to be back in the saddle for SDCC, which is the weekend of the 23rd.

Now the rest of that info on the SuperWiki page I would take with a huge chunk of rocksalt, since it's mostly unsourced. SuperWiki is a great site overall, but individual authors of pages are not above a bit of editorializing and sheer fanon.

Jason Fischer tweeted that it was a typo. They start filming July 12:
