My guesses on the focus of these eps
. Lost and Found- Sam and Jack, Lucifer and Mary
2. The Rising Sun- Sam and Jack, Lucifer and Mary
3. Patience- Misery, Patience, Wayward Sisters. Dean gets told to suck it up, ending his "grief arc"
4. The Big Empty- Cas, and whoever is stalking him.
5. Advanced Thanatology- Sam, and his grief (Jared said we would see Sam's grief come to a head)
6. Tombstone- Sam, Cas and Jack
7. War of the Worlds- Jack, Lucifer, Mary and Sam
8. The Scorpion and the Frog- Jack, Sam, Lucifer
9. The Bad Place- Wayward Sisters
There really seems to be no room for Dean this season. He's not tied to the Jack arc. They've turned Cas into Sam's bestie, and Mary and Sam will now bond over being stuck with Lucifer. .

Jared already has had a week off, both J's confirmed it at VanCon. And now Jensen has posted a little video on social media and is later seen driven away. Also without Jared.
Today was the last shooting day of episode 3.

I have a feeling the Wayward Sisters arc will have considerably more Dean than Sam, since that storyline almost always does (because of Claire and Jody, but even Alex got more Dean time late last season than Sam time). Yeah, they're throwing in Missouri for a bit, but she's just there to introduce Patience. I seriously doubt she'll be sticking around--and by that, I mean they'll probably kill her off.
The thing is that aside from Missouri, the writers have pretty much never had Sam bond with PoCs, let alone WoCs. And the relationships Sam has with women are usually sexual. Even Ava was teased as a possible love interest initially. The few exceptions were either maternal or maternal substitutes. Dean is the one who bonds with women as a mentor or a friend. And PoCs. And GLBT folks. The writers just throw those characters at him by default.
Mary is far more closely tied to Dean than to Sam. I don't see that changing. There's just not much there between her and Sam to write about. They tried during the LoL arc and it fell very flat. It would be nice to see Sam form *something* with Mary, but it's never going to be as deep as her bond with Dean and it would have to be built from scratch.
Jack could be tied almost completely to Sam, I suppose, but with Dean actively trying to kill him, it could go either way. I know these writers (especially Dabb and the Nep Duo) can be stupid about conflict and try to force it in directions it doesn't naturally go, but there's just plain lots more conflict with the Brother who's trying to kill the New Guy than the one who wants to be buddies.
Castiel is never going to be anything approaching as much about Sam as about Dean. They have pushed that hard in past seasons, and Cas-and-Sam arcs have never worked. There's just a point where you gotta let that one go, writers.
Jensen has been on set a lot more than Jared recently.
I'll believe Sam has a grief arc when I see one. The writers have always consistently fumbled such arcs and ended up bunting. Or whiffing. (Hey, how many sports metaphors can I mix in here?) Jared promises stuff like that every season and every season, it doesn't pan out to much.
Jack can just go away now.

I'm not sure if it is the writing and/ or the acting of Sam but yes I wholeheartedly agree. People, whether they be monsters, victims, allies, friends, they all gravitate towards Dean/ Jensen.
