Ugh, seriously? Practically every other show on TV has something like a 70-30 m-f split for no damned good reason and we're still whinging about the lack of female representation on a show that has two male leads? There are some real rocket scientists asking *that* interview question these days!
Why not ask why the hell Legends of Tomorrow has two female regulars out of a cast of seven, or Arrow has three out of seven, or The Flash two out of six, or Gotham four out of freakin' thirteen, or the upcoming Justice League film one out of six? Or why Supergirl, an ostensibly female-heavy show, only has parity?
The new shows aren't any better. The Dynasty cast? Two out of eight. The entire premise of Valor involves a woman being surrounded by men. And before we get all excited about Riverdale and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, not only do those shows get terrible ratings, but they deserve them for the horribly retro roles they give to the female characters. Every female on Riverdale is a massive bitch of some type, while the men just can't help being whiny. And Crazy Ex-Girlfriend purports to be feminist and groundbreaking while pandering to the worst Lifetime Network cliches known to woman and failing to address the part that if this were a show about a Crazy Ex-*Boy*friend, we would be rooting for him to get the girl. Trust me--nobody is rooting for Rebecca to get the boy in CEG.
If any of those shows without parity tried to do a female-lead spinoff, they couldn't do it because they don't have enough female characters. Not only was Supernatural able to pull it off, it only needed to add two new characters to the show, for a total of six in a completely female cast.
Now, does Supernatural have its issues in the area of gender? Hell, yeah. But I am so forking sick and tired of this Ostroff-hangover bullshirt where everybody has to bang away about SPN's alleged misogyny, while ignoring the elephant in the room that is all the other shows that have no excuse for their embarrassing lack of parity. At least SPN's is baked in, since it only has two main characters and they're brothers.

This show's particular formula is what it has always been since the beginning, and it just feels like overwrought PC'ness at this point to complain about the lack of female presence in a show whose singular premise was focused on a pair of brothers. Sure, there have been female characters over the years that they've gotten rid of who I'd like to have stuck around in some capacity. But, guess what, I can say the same about many male characters who have been killed off that I'm missing too. This show's fetish for killing off good characters, of both genders, is definitely a problem, no argument here. Though it's nowhere near as big a problem as keeping or resurrecting really crappy ones no one gives a damn about. Yes, Lucifer, I'm looking at you.
