Mary walks in Mick surveying his dead. She's been out cleaning up, saying most of the vamps fled after Sam killed the Alpha.
Retch snarks at Mick about being a loser. He comes by with the rogue Hunter and the Winchesters are fine with the guy being taken off to be tortured to death.
At the Impala, Dean says he came as fast as he could. Sam wonders why and then realizes when Dean looks at Mary. Dean forgives Mary, saying he understands they're all adults now and she's going to do some things he really doesn't like, sometimes. Mary looks happy.
Sam comes to Mitch and says he's in, because apparently, it's his turn to get slapped with the Plot Stupidity Salmon. When Mitch asks about Dean (who is over with Mary, who I think is fairly done with the LoL at this point), Sam says to give him some time, he'll talk Dean around.
Oh, Sam. And here you'd come so far, only to fall back into the idjit Pool.
Still no promo because ugh, Riverdale.

So Sam got to see that their fancy base was "not built for defense," which was stupid. That they had no backup plan, which was stupid. That they kept the Colt even though they had no way of making bullets, which was useless. And they didn't approach Dean and Sam about it (they didn't have to tell them that they got the gun from Mary), even though if they know everything they said they did, they knew that the brothers and Bobby had found a way to re-arm the Colt--yet more stupid.
And yet, Sam still wants to join them. Am I supposed to think that's smart?

Sooooo, Dean vanished from the climax again? Yep. That, too. Though he and Mary seem to be a lot closer now. Except that Sam just picked up the idjit Ball that Mary dropped.

So in the same episode where they have Dean stop Mr. Ketch from torturing a vampire, they're okay with a 'bad' hunter being taken off to be tortured?

Sam and Mary were. Dean was the one who stopped Retch from torturing the vampire.

Yeah, but I think that's an interesting contrast.
ETA: I should have clarified 'they're.'

Also, Sam is usually all for sparing monsters if they aren't 'evil' (as long as they aren't named Benny). Now he's onboard with exterminating all of them? Is this because he was reminded of having a 'normal' life by his Mom?

Even if they can create this monsterfree America, I don't see the brothers getting dayjobs, having normal lives.
They know to much, seen to much, did to much. There is no going back from all of this.

I totally agree. This fantasy 'normal' is not and has never been attainable for them in the longterm. It's something Mary said she wanted, but it's not something she could stick with any better than Dean did when he tried it. It's just not in them to do it anymore. It's something Sam has said he wanted forever, whether it's as a lawyer or maintenance man for a rundown motel, so I'm guessing that's what swayed him unless we're going to buy that he's playing the BMoL. If he's not, and he tries to get Dean to go along with it, then it's just way to reminiscent of season 4 and the way he was with Ruby and using his powers for me.

Sam has always been a tad hypocritical about monsters. If they were his girlfriends or reminded him of himself and his hang-ups, they got carte blanche to do pretty much whatever the hell they wanted. If they didn't, he was at the head of the mob with a pitchfork and a machete.
He's also always wanted to retire. Of course it's ludicrous to think that killing off all of Eve's children would put him out of a job. There are still demons, angels, Leviathans, and pagan Chucks, and they're all considerably more powerful than monsters. But when Sam's got a bug up his butt about something, he may grasp at any straw.
Mary I get. She's been dead for 33 years and finds cell phones impressive, so she was snowed by the LoL for a while (not so much now). But Sam doesn't have that excuse.
I snickered at the bit about Michigan. Are we to believe that the monsters of "Bloodlust" are now goners? One sincerely hopes.

Whether he has a plan in mind or he is still so damn hung up on having a "normal life". However, I don't see Dean ever punching the BMoL's time-clock, working with them periodically when it's mutually beneficial sure, but Dean doesn't like to be under anyone's thumb.
