Was there a vote button that I missed?
Well, if you're still adding, my vote is BAD! And this is coming from someone who initially held out hope for good things with Mary's return, particularly where Dean is concerned. Boy was I wronger than wrong!
It seems obvious to me that Dabb and Smith discussed the character's return, and either or both decided that her being the brothers' mom was a bad thing, something they didn't want to play up. So instead they go the cold, distant, never wanted to be a mother, bitchy route. Then they further compound it by trying to make her a Sue-huntress extraordinaire as yet another in an increasing line of characters used to show up the brothers whom Dabb has little to no interest in. So, sure, go ignoring Dean or making him look like a fool, and that's just the way to force a character into my heart. NOT!
Frankly I've come to the conclusion that all Dabb has been doing this season is writing a Mary Sue Winchester spin-off, even if it's only for himself and nothing the network is interested in.
Bottom line, I really can't stand the character. On the upside, John no longer looks like the worst parent ever.

Are the really cutting out the promos for the live episodes? They don't appear to be showing them at the end of the episodes anymore - instead launching right into Riverdale. My guess, but I don't know for sure since I don't watch Riverdale, is that the network is pulling that shtick where they air a promo for the previous show somewhere in the middle of the show that follows it in an attempt to force those viewers to watch the other/newer show. I don't know if that ever really works, and I don't even know for sure if the promos are airing during Riverdale. But I'm guessing that's what's happening in trying to get some SPN fans to watch Riverdale. At first I thought I was missing the promos myself because I always watch off the dvr so, needless to say, I'm FF'ing most of the time. But I haven't seen promos, and I've seen other fans talk about the promos not airing anymore.

Jensen is, always has been, always will be too good for this show. But really, I'm serious.

That's the first time I've seen the promo. Thanks for posting.

I posted my review in the episode thread rather than this one the way I normally do on imdb, because I'm not on the boards whenever the episode is airing. So my thoughts are there, but I will say this one is likely to turn out to be my favorite of the season.
- Dean-focused, which is so rare these days. - Material that allowed Jensen to run the gamut of emotions, of which he is a master and almost never gets to do anymore. - The Winchester brothers were the leads, which is also rare these days. - Rowena fit the storyline like a glove, and wasn't just there to use Ruth because contract! - The guest-stars were guest-stars used to move the story along for the leads, the way it's supposed to be done. - Dean music montage! Though, while awesome, felt weirdly like a goodbye to Dean/Jensen. - I actually want to rewatch this episode, and that pretty much never happens now.
9/10

I guess this is the same writer who wrote the Hitler episode, and while I get that a lot of fans didn't like that one, I did because it was just about the only other episode this year that gave Dean something to do - and, bottom line, that's my criteria. If Dean isn't doing anything, or worse barely there, then I'm not going to invest or care at all, and that's that. But, really, in this script as in the Hitler script the Winchesters were the leads again, which they rarely are these days.
So it's nice to have a writer on staff who actually wants to write for the Winchesters - and I don't mean Mary Sue, I mean Dean and Sam.
IMO this script felt so much tighter for the fact that there were only three main characters and really very few guest-stars. And, yes, the guest-stars were GUEST-STARS! There simply to move the story along for the LEADS. Again, it makes a big difference.
I love that Jensen was finally given material that was worth showing up to work for, and that the focus was on Dean for the first time in ... I can't remember the last time the focus was on Dean.
I do wonder how much better a script like this would have been in another season with stronger writers, but I'll take it as is considering what a bust most of this year has been.
I did love the Dean music montage at the end, especially all the glorious shots of Jensen on the mechanical bull. But at the same time I thought it felt a little like a goodbye letter to a long-standing favorite character, as if Jensen was leaving the show.
Of course, given the hints and talk about what's coming up the rest of the season, and the fact that Jensen appears to have barely worked since the holidays, It could very well be a goodbye to Dean for the remainder of the season. And if that's the case, then this will definitely turn out to be my favorite episode of the season.

These sneak peeks are making me look forward to this episode tonight, for the first time in ... I don't know how long it's been since I actually looked forward to an episode of this show. I just hope I'm not setting myself up for a major disappointment. If nothing else, I know Jensen's performance will be awesome and heartbreaking.

I honestly don't know where the season is going, because I don't think Dabb and Singer have a clue. I think they're throwing noodles at a wall to see what sticks. They have certain interests - or, at least, Dabb does, like Mary being a Sue, Rosemary's baby v 2.0, and the BMoL. But even though those things interest Dabb, I'm not convinced he knows what to do about them.
I really don't think Singer cares about anything other than getting an episode done on time and on budget, and adhering to the Js' contracts to give them x-amount of time off.
Certainly the most predictable thing is Mary Sue sacrificing herself - but been there, done that, ad nauseam, and does anyone really care? Besides, it's obvious Dabb cares more about Mary Sue than Dean and Sam, both of whom he doesn't appear to like at all. So in terms of having a Winchester on the show, Mary Sue is his favorite, so I can't see him wanting to get rid of her. And Mary sacrificing herself for two sons she can't be paid enough to care about anyway just has no emotional resonance.
Having all these consequences for Cas killing dull, unimaginative, annoying Billie is eye-rolling, especially when there was not a single consequence from Dean killing the Big Kahuna, Death himself. Any reaper less than Death is just a blade of grass.
I'm not sure I've seen a single person pretend to be interested in the BMoL, though you know, loops, having Mary betray the brothers might make her moderately more interesting to me. Not anymore likable, granted - but I don't like her anyway, so may as well make her a villain. But I don't see that happening for the reason that she's Dabb's primary Sue. I'm guessing at this point Mary is just doing something stupid and is going to be betrayed herself, and the guys have to deal with the fall-out.

Hi and thanks so much for creating this board. Obviously another refugee from imdb who would like to keep up with everyone, especially those of us who have been around a while. Kept my same handle from imdb, and I'm happy to see others doing pretty much the same. Makes it easier!
My favorite character is Dean, and I've been with the show since literally before it aired - snagged a bootleg copy of the pilot the summer before it premiered.
I live in Orlando, Florida, though in about four years the hubby and I are considering a move westward.
